Please sponsor me to row ONE MILLION METRES in aid of the the organ appeal at St Luke's Church and Breast Cancer Care.

One million metres is the equivalent of:

  • 1000 km or approximately 621 miles
  • London to Florence (where Quorum will be going on tour in July!)
This means rowing 25,000m every week for 40 weeks. I will aim to do this in five sessions of 5000m each week, but the number of sessions and distance rowed per session may vary. The aim is to complete the challenge before the end of 2006, with the final 5000m taking place at St Luke's on a date to be confirmed.

I will be using a Concept 2 Model D indoor rower. Each rowing session will be recorded in the memory of the rowing machine's 'PM3' computer, and also on a removable logcard. Dates, distances and times will be downloaded onto a PC to prove that I have reached my goal.

You can keep track of my progress using the graphic below, which will be updated weekly.

Distance covered as of 04/07/2009: 1000000 metres

Distance in metres (000s)

As a member of the parish choir and of 'Quorum', I firmly believe in the importance of the restoration of the organ to protect the musical heritage of St Luke's. I have also chosen to row for Breast Cancer Care, to support a good friend in her fight against the disease (and that of her family, and thousands more like her). The money I raise will be split 50/50 between these two great causes. More information about Breast Cancer Care can be found here: www.breastcancercare.org.uk.

To sponsor me, please complete the form below. If you are a UK taxpayer, St Luke's Church and Breast Cancer Care can claim back income tax on your donation. Every £1 you donate is worth £1.28 to the projects - so please complete this part of the form if you can.
